Matt’s Day at the Ballpark

Matt embarked on his journey with Sunnyhill in the summer of 2019. Despite adapting to his new surroundings, he struggled with severe behaviors that kept him isolated from community interactions for years. In the fall of 2022, Matt’s life began to change when he transitioned to Sunnyhill’s ABA Behavior Supports service.

Guided by the unwavering dedication of his team, Matt’s transformation began. In April 2023, fueled by sheer determination, he set an ambitious goal: attending a St. Louis Cardinals home game and enjoying ballpark foods. Through a meticulously structured token economy, Matt tirelessly pursued this goal.

Four months later, surrounded by cheers and companionship, Matt witnessed the Cardinals claim victory. Once hindered by obstacles, his journey now shines as a symbol of hope and resilience. From adversity to triumph, Matt’s narrative epitomizes the unyielding spirit nurtured by Sunnyhill’s programs.

Matt’s journey inspires us all, reminding us that with perseverance and support, the path to empowerment is illuminated for everyone. Health inequity costs $320 billion a year while many people like Matt continue to live in restriction due to a lack of access to supportive programs. Matt’s story highlights the critical importance of providing these services to help individuals thrive and participate fully in their communities.
